Where FaceTime wins
- Built into Apple devices, so Apple users have nothing extra to install.
- Group calls, with Android and Windows guests joining by link from a browser.
- Live Translation shows translated captions in one-on-one calls on supported Apple devices.
Where hello.fan wins
- Works in any browser on any phone or computer; the Android app rings like a phone call, and the iOS app is on its way.
- Live translated subtitles in 30 languages on calls, plus chat that translates itself.
- Video, voice and text chat in one place, each with the creator's own per-minute price.
- Creators keep up to 70% of what fans pay.
Is there FaceTime for Android?
Not as an app. Apple's own help pages say people on Android or Windows can join a FaceTime call from a link, using the latest Chrome or Edge, and then wait for the host to let them in. They can't start a FaceTime call themselves, and Apple notes that screen sharing isn't available in FaceTime on the web.
That works for a family call where one person has an Apple device and sends the link. It's less handy when you want to reach someone you follow, at the moment they're free, from whatever phone you happen to have.
hello.fan works the same in any browser, so it doesn't matter which phone or computer either person uses. There's an Android app that rings like a phone call, and the iOS app is on its way. If cross-platform calling is your main question, read our guide to video calls between Apple and Android phones and our list of ways to video chat with no download.
What is a good FaceTime alternative for paid calls?
FaceTime has no way to charge for a call. A coach or tutor who uses it for paid sessions has to collect the money somewhere else and keep an eye on the clock themselves.
On hello.fan, pricing is part of the call. Each creator sets a separate per-minute price for video, voice and chat, from 50 to 5,000 credits a minute (100 credits = $1). Fans pay per started 15 seconds, only while both people are connected, so ringing and waiting cost nothing.
- For fans: see topics, languages and prices before you tap call.
- For creators: keep up to 70% of what fans pay, paid to your bank through Stripe.
- For both: live translated subtitles in 30 languages, and nothing is recorded.
That makes hello.fan a FaceTime alternative for one specific job: paid one-to-one time. For everyday calls with people you know, FaceTime stays the simpler choice. Compare other options in our guide to the best platform for paid video calls.
