# Get paid to chat online, by the minute
Typing replies to people who want your attention can be paid time. On hello.fan, text chat has its own per-minute price, separate from voice and video, and you decide what it costs, including nothing at all.

Quick answerTo get paid to chat online, open a creator page on hello.fan, which we make, and set a per-minute price for text chat from 50 to 5,000 credits (100 credits = $1). Fans pay per started 15 seconds, only while you are both connected, and you keep up to 70% of what they pay. You can also keep chat free to start conversations, and fans can still reach you offline with Icebreakers and Super Hello gifts.

**Text chat gets its own per-minute price, from 50 to 5,000 credits a minute, never above your voice or video price**

**Chat can be free** an easy way for new people to say hello before they pay for a call.

**Fans pay per started 15 seconds, only while you're both connected, and you keep up to 70% of what they pay**

**Icebreakers (a one-line hello for 10 credits) and Super Hello gifts with a private note reach you when you're offline**

## How do you get paid to chat on hello.fan?
Most places where you chat with people online pay you nothing for the time. On **hello.fan**, text chat is a paid format of its own. A fan opens your page, picks chat, and the meter runs at the per-minute price you set for chat, only while you are both connected. Billing is per started 15 seconds, so a quick exchange costs the fan a few seconds' worth, not a whole hour.

Your three prices sit on a ladder: video at or above voice, and voice at or above chat. That makes chat the natural first step, and it's where many conversations begin.

- Your chat price can be anything from 50 to 5,000 credits a minute, with 100 credits equal to $1.
- Chat translates itself, so you can talk with people who write in another language.
- Nothing is recorded, and your phone number stays private.

We make hello.fan, so this is our own platform, not a neutral review. The full creator side is explained on [hello.fan for creators](https://thebestplatform.com/hello-fan/creators/).

## Should your chat be free or paid?
Both work. Free chat lowers the barrier: someone curious can say hi, ask what you talk about and get a feel for you without paying anything. When the conversation is going well, they can move up to a paid voice or video call. Paid chat suits creators whose typed answers are the thing people come for, such as a quick review, a recommendation or a short piece of advice.

A simple way to decide:

- **Free chat** if you mainly want calls and need a friendly front door.
- **A low chat price** if you get lots of small questions and want each one to count.
- **A higher chat price** if you answer in depth and your time is limited.

Whichever you choose, the meter only runs while you are both connected, so nobody pays for time spent waiting. If calls are your main goal, our page on how to [get paid to video chat](https://thebestplatform.com/make-money/get-paid-to-video-chat/) covers pricing for camera time.

## Can you earn money chatting online while you're offline?
Live chat needs you to be online, but you don't have to sit by your phone all day. Set working hours and hello.fan switches you online and offline automatically. Fans who heart your page get an alert when you come online, so the people who want to chat know when to find you.

Outside your hours, two small extras keep the door open:

- **Icebreaker**: a one-line hello for 10 credits. You can reply once.
- **Super Hello**: a gift with a private note, also with one reply from you.

Both are short by design. One message in, one reply out, which makes them easy to answer between other things in your day. A thoughtful reply is also a good reason for that person to come back when you're online and start a chat or a call.

Regulars can book a session inside your working hours, paid up front, or keep a weekly session at the same time every week. The Android app rings like a phone call; the iOS app is on its way.

## How are chat earnings paid out?
Fans buy credits, and 100 credits equal $1. Of whatever a fan pays for your chat time, you keep 60%, or 70% when your hello.fan page links to a store.fan shop on a paid plan. Each earning is ready 14 days after it is made, and once your ready balance reaches $100 it goes to your bank through Stripe, after a quick ID check.

Be realistic about the numbers. Chat is never priced above your voice or video, so it rarely carries your income on its own. What it does well is start conversations that turn into calls, bookings and regulars. Nothing here is guaranteed: what you earn depends on your price and the calls you take.

If you already sell downloads, guides or coaching, a [store.fan](https://store.fan/?utm_source=thebestplatform.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=kw-make-money-get-paid-to-chat&utm_content=body) shop is a home for those, and linking it on a paid plan is what lifts your hello.fan share to 70%. Ready to try? [Open your creator page](https://hello.fan/login?creator=1&utm_source=thebestplatform.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=kw-make-money-get-paid-to-chat&utm_content=body) and set your chat price.

Example: 30 chats of 15 minutes at 80 credits a minute = 36,000 credits = $360 paid by fans. You keep $216 at 60%, or $252 at 70% with a linked store.fan shop on a paid plan. How much you make depends on your price and the calls you take.

## How to start

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I really get paid to chat online?
Yes. On hello.fan, text chat has its own per-minute price that you set, from 50 to 5,000 credits a minute (100 credits = $1). Fans pay only while you're both connected, and you keep up to 70%. There's no guaranteed income: it depends on your price and the calls you take.

### Is chat billed per message or per minute?
Per minute, in steps of 15 seconds. Fans pay per started 15 seconds at your chat price, and only while you're both connected, so the meter stops when the chat ends.

### Can I make chat free?
Yes. Chat can be free, which is an easy way to let new people say hello. Your voice and video prices are always at or above your chat price, so a free chat can lead into a paid call.

### What are Icebreakers and Super Hellos?
An Icebreaker is a one-line hello a fan sends for 10 credits. A Super Hello is a gift with a private note. You can reply once to each, so fans can reach you even when you're offline.

### When do I get paid for chats?
Each earning is ready 14 days after it is made. When your ready balance reaches $100, it's paid to your bank through Stripe, after a quick ID check.
